What is Oncoplastic Surgery?
Oncoplastic surgery combines the latest oncology treatment with plastic surgery techniques to ensure the best possible aesthetic outcome while prioritizing cancer removal. This approach allows for larger tumor removal while preserving the natural shape and symmetry of the breast. The Nipple-Sparing Goldilocks mastectomy is a highly effective surgical option, delivering minimal side effects and superior cosmetic results.
Plans cancer removal and reconstruction together, with attention to both oncologic treatment and the resulting breast shape.
Who May Benefit
Particularly suited to patients with macromastia or significant ptosis, and those who do not desire or may not be candidates for more complex reconstruction.
Oncoplastic ApproachÂ
Skin & Fat Use
Uses remaining skin and subcutaneous fat, when appropriate, to preserve or recreate a natural breast contour.
Shorter, Outpatient Surgery
Offers a shorter operative time, approximately 1.5–2.5 hours, and is typically performed as outpatient surgery.
Mastectomy Reconstruction
The Goldilocks technique combines a skin- and Nipple-Sparing mastectomy with reconstruction using remaining skin and subcutaneous fat, without requiring an implant or distant flap.
Results & Future OptionsÂ
Creates a smaller breast mound rather than a completely flat result, with options for refinement such as fat grafting or, when appropriate, reverse abdominoplasty through a single incision along the natural breast fold.
SWIM/Goldilocks Breast Reconstruction
Advanced oncoplastic and nipple-sparing techniques allow breast cancer treatment and reconstruction to be planned together, with greater attention to preserving a natural breast appearance. With experience in more than 500 cases, Dr. Lee offers these techniques to patients with breast cancer as well as those at elevated risk, including individuals with genetic mutations or a strong family history of breast cancer.
